AA batteries are required to run the LED lights in each manikin (not included). 

The Prestan mankin has been specifically designed to provide quality CPR to the student. The Prestan range of manikin utilises colour LED lights to provide indication of speed of CPR:

• Red Lights - 60 or less compressions per minute - stuent should look to incrase the speed of compressions dramatically
• Orange Lights - Compression speed it 60-79 per minitue 
• Single Green Light - Compression speed is 80-100 per minute; a single green light indicates good CPR but student should look for a 20%-30% increase
• Dual green lights indicate that the student is performing in the quality CPR zone of 100-120 compressions per minute - the student should look to maintain this speed of CPR for in excess of two minutes
• Yellow light  in the middle of two greens indicates that the student is exceeding the 120 compressions per minute. The student shoud look to decrease the speed of CPR to be in the zone of 100-120 compressions per minute

What Is The Third Benefit Of The Prestan Professional Manikin Range?

The new professional range include manikins with the so-called BLUE CPR Rate Monitor. The BLUE monitor is one of the latest in manikin technology, so it provides some additional features that were not included in some of the previous versions.

Please note that instructors who already own a Prestan manikin with CPR monitor do not necessarily need to buy the new professional manikin. The BLUE CPR Rate Monitor can be ordered separately and installed in your current Prestan manikin. However, to ensure the new monitor is compatible, it is best to contact Mentone Educational before ordering.

Instructors who prefer to upgrade their entire Prestan manikin can obtain the latest Professional Manikin from our range. With the latest BLUE CPR Rate Monitor, students will also be notified when more than 120 chest compressions are given; this through two green lights and one yellow light.

The BLUE CPR Rate Monitor interacts with the clicker that is embedded inside the manikin. When a correct amount of compressions is provided, two lights will be shown on the right shoulder of the manikin (or the diaper of the infant manikin). When less than 60 compressions are given, a red light will be shown, prompting the student to speed up.

Feedback systems are essential these days, especially considering that many CPR instructors are teaching larger classes with lots of students. Thanks to the feedback system, less input from the instructor is required. Students can correct themselves, without the need for additional input by their instructor.

How Do I Maintain The Manikins From the Prestan Family Starter Set?

Add a cloth to the solution and wring until the cloth is damp. Then, wipe down the manikin’s exterior and interior before storage.

Instructors can keep the manikin sanitary during CPR classes with the help of sanitary wipes. It is also possible to use lung bags and face shields. The face shield will form a barrier between the manikin’s mouth and that of the student, subsequently shielding it from bacteria. The lung bag inserted in the manikin has a goal too, as it keeps the internal structure of the manikin sanitary. It also provides a more realistic rise and fall of the chest during CPR training.

The CPR Rate Monitor lights on my adult/child manikin are not working properly.

There are a few things to check when your monitor lights are malfunctioning:
   1. Make sure you are compressing fully, you should hear the clicker when fully compressed.
   2. Replace batteries and recheck. Two AA batteries are installed in the battery compartment behind the left shoulder of the manikin.
   3. The clicker, which drives the monitor lights, may be malfunctioning. Contact your distributor or Prestan for a replacement clicker.

The CPR Rate Monitor lights on my infant manikin are not working properly.

   1. Make sure you are compressing fully, you should hear the clicker when fully compressed.
   2. Replace batteries and recheck. Two AA batteries are installed in the battery compartment of the monitor unit located in the diaper area.
   3. The LED monitor may be malfunctioning. Contact your distributor or Prestan for a replacement monitor.

The diaper area of my Infant Manikin bubbles up when I give compressions.

Remove the diaper section and tuck in all skin sections. Reattach the diaper section pushing down on the unit as much as possible and continue holding down while screwing in the screws.

How do you replace the batteries?

The compartment for the batteries is located under the “diaper area” of the manikin. Open the cover to the CPR Rate Monitor by using a small flat-edged screwdriver in the slots on sides and gently lifting. Remove the CPR Rate Monitor unit from the well. Squeeze the tabbed area to open the battery compartment and replace the batteries. Once the batteries are replaced, snap the lid back into place, return the CPR Rate Monitor unit to the well and snap the diaper cover back into place.
