Works with the premise that each organ has a nerve supply related to a specific vertebrae. If an organ is diseased or irritated a pain will typically be felt in a specific part of the body. Although this pain pattern is common to all humans, it can deviate from person to person.

Charts are colour-coded demonstrating dorsal and ventral areas of referred pain. Dorsal view includes locations of the spine that may be tender to palpation due to visceral disease.
